Learning about Jon Jablonski, along with a lot of practice, I like to think of graphic design as consisting of a bunch of design choices involving shapes, contrast, hierarchy, typography and symbolism. Get these right a couple of times, and you will quickly build up a mental library of what usually work. After that, you mix and match, try to replicate moods and feelings, and experiment with bold new styles. Granted, I still struggle with having too much color in some designs, but I try to work on this.
